Wisden Cricketer of the Year 1931 Australian Cricket Hall of Fame 1996 Though born in New Zealand, Clarrie Grimmet played most of his cricket in Australia. He was one of the early exponents of spin and the invention of flipper is attributed to him. Clarrie Grimmet played test cricket for Australia between 1925-36. Clarrie Grimmet embarked on test cricket at the age of 33. Inspite of playing in only 37 test matches, Clarrie Grimmet finished with 216 wickets. He is the only bowler who has captured 200 wickets in less than 40 test matches. Clarrie Grimmet has an amazing average of six wickets per match. Clarrie Grimmet's first-class record is even more impressive. In 248 matches, Clarrie Grimmet has taken 1424 wickets at an average of 22.48. As a fitting recognition of his genius, Clarrie Grimmet became one of the first ten players to be inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1996.
