Full name Craig John McDermott Born April 14, 1965, Raceview, Ipswich, Queensland Major teams Australia, Queensland Batting style Right-hand bat Bowling style Right-arm fast
Though his career was marred by injury, Craig McDermott was a true fighting sportsman who gave his all to the game from the time he made a sensational debut in 1985 against England. He took thirty wickets in the six tests in that series. Consequently, his good form continued and he became Australia's leading wicket taker, and held that record for a long time. He was one of the most reliable strike bowlers in the early nineties.
Craig McDermott wasn't as popular as Lillee or Warne, but his talent was immense and he could rip apart any batting line up on his day. He also chipped in with the bat when the need arose, there by making himself an inevitable member of the squad. He performed best against England, taking 84 wickets in 17 tests. His best performance came in Perth, where he ravaged the English side, taking 8 for 97.
His career was unfortunately cut short by injuries. However, in whatever he contributed, he remains as one of the best players Cricket Australia has produced.
