Ian Chappell is regarded by many as one of the best Australian captains. Under his confident and resourceful captaincy, Australia never lost a series.
Ian Chappell made his debut in a test series against Pakistan in 1964. In his long test career that spanned 17 years, Ian Chappell played in 75 test matches and scored 5345 runs at an average of 42.42. He played in only 16 one days and scored 673 runs at an average of 48.07.
When Ian Chappell took over the captaincy from Bill Lawry, the Australian team was languishing due to severe lack of confidence. Ian Chappell injected vitality into the team and soon made it into the most successful of teams.
Life was busy for Ian Chappell even years after his retirement. He became a commentator for Channel Nine and hosted number of shows on television.
