Mark Taylor was one of the most successful Australian captains and he is credited as being the captain who was instrumental in making Australia emerge as world champions. He was a bulky cricketer who had technique-both in playing shots and strategizing plans to better the performance of his team. He took over from Allan Border as captain in 1994.
On his first series against England Mark Taylor made a staggering 839 runs. That was just the beginning of a career that saw very few failures. His batting was as good as his slip fielding. He was a world famous slip fielder and caught most of his world record 157 catches fielding at slips. 104 Tests and 113 ODIs later he announced his retirement from cricket. But though he was not going to play the game anymore, his name would forever be carved in cricketing history as one of the most talented, diplomatic and well liked cricketers.
