Michael Slater made his debut for Australia in the 1993 Ashes series against England and was immediately successful, scoring a fifty. He had previously played for New South Whales after being to the prestigious Australian Cricket Academy. He was a confident stroke player who in a short while managed to amass runs, before cementing his place as an Australian Test opener. He played 74 Tests, slamming 14 centuries and 21 fifties while scoring 5312 runs at an average of 42.83. He did not, however, perform as well in the shorter version of the game.
Michael Slater's career came crashing down in 2001 when he was plagued by a personal mishap and carried his emotions to the cricket field as well, leading to many uncalled for incidents. These, teamed up with other rumors and allegations led to him being dropped from the Australian side which was a shock both to him and his fans. However, he gathered the pieces of his life together and after retirement took up commentary and remains associated with the game he contributed so much to.
