Alok Kapali came to the Bangladesh side in 2002 as a promising allrounder. In time, his batting talents seem to have superseded his bowling, which has mostly been inconsistent. Trading in the difficult art of leg spinning in international cricket, has not been too profitable for Alok Kapali, in fact his bowling has proved too expensive most of the time.
Alok Kapali's debut against Sri Lanka at Colombo vindicated the faith of the selectors, as he impressed with his batting in a match that was marked by Bangladesh's poor performance.
In 2003, Alok Kapali became the first Bangladesh bowler to take a hattrick in test cricket. This feat earned for Bangladesh, a first innings lead in a test match for the first time.
Since then, Alok Kapali has struggled to retain his place in the test side. He has been in the team on and off.
