Dav Whatmore once said that Khaled Mashud was the best wicket keeper in Asia, and that only speaks volumes for the Bangladeshi wicket keeper. Apart from his brilliant keeping, Khaled Mashud is also a very talented batsman. He has rescued Bangladesh a number of times and a special mention goes to the June 2004 St Lucia Test when his unbeaten second-innings century assured the visitors a draw in their first Test in the Caribbean. After making 71 in the final match of the NatWest Series against Australia in England in 2005, he has had 24 Test innings without a 50, though he made 49 in Bangladesh's first Test win, over Zimbabwe in January 2005. He was made captain of Bangladesh in 2001, but after the dismal performance of the side, he resigned from the post in 2003. However he remains as one of the most exciting players of the Bangladeshi team.
