After making a fighting 47 and chipping in with 2 wickets playing for Bangladesh's Development XI against the touring England in a warm up match in 2004, Manjural Islam caught the attention of the selectors and made it to the Bangladeshi national team. Making his ODI debut at Chittagong, he had the rare honor of becoming the first Bangladeshi to pick up a wicket in the first over of his international career. The feat came after he dismissed Michael Vaughan. He made his test debut against Zimbabwe. However he has not been successful in Tests.
