The initials that Michael Colin Cowdrey's name shares with Marylebone Cricket Club are no coincidence but an evidence of his father's fascination for cricket. When Colin Cowdrey joined Kent Cricket Club in 1950 as a seventeen year old, it was a beginning of a satisfying affair that was to last for sixteen years. Colin Cowdrey made his test debut on 1954/55 tour of Australia and New Zealand. The tour was a fruitful one for Colin Cowdrey since he got his first test match hundred. In 1957, Colin Cowdrey was appointed the England captain, a position he held for many years. Colin Cowdrey played in 114 tests and made 7624 runs at an average of 44.06. He was the first cricketer to play in 100 tests. Colin Cowdrey played county for Kent, a side he lead from 1956 till the 1970s. In 1970 he gave Kent its first County Championship since 1913.

In 1992, Colin Cowdrey became the first cricketer to be granted peerage. He was awarded the title Baron Cowdrey of Tonbridge. Cricketscorelive.com gives information on Colin Cowdrey and other Great Cricketers.
