It was after Ian Botham quit captaincy in 1988, that his most productive years began. His match winning knock of 145 runs has been considered by Wisden the 4th best inning of all time.
Ian Botham hold the record for achieving the fastest doubles of 1000 runs and 100 wickets, 2000 runs and 200 wickets and 3000 runs and 300 wickets. He was the first to score 5000 runs and take 300 wickets. Also, he has scored a century and taken 5 wickets in the same innings five times, noone has achieved this more than once.
Ian Botham retired from an illustrious service to cricket in 1992. His transition from a test cricketer to a commentator was facilitated by his charisma and his vast knowledge of the game.
