Though born in England, Mark Alleyne had his upbringing in Barbados, where he grew up playing all kinds of sports. He returned to his birthplace to complete his schooling but his immense love for cricket led him to follow his brother, Stephen, to Haringey Cricket College and later to Gloucestershire. Mark Alleyne became the first graduate from Haringey to obtain first-class position. A cricketer of immense talents, Mark Alleyne inconsistent streaks sadly reduced his reputation to that of a bits and pieces cricketer. An impressive wicketkeeper, Mark Alleyne had a decent bowling arm too, considering the 415 first class wickets. He declined the 12-month contract with Somerset, since Gloucestershire approached with a more reasonable three-year deal. Nicknamed Boo-Boo, Mark Alleyne was exceedingly popular among his teammates. His tactical leadership skills and his boyish charms helped Gloucestershire achieve great heights. In his first year in county cricket in 1986, Mark Alleyne became the youngest batsman to score a century. Mark Alleyne was handed over the captaincy of Gloucestershire in 1997. Under him, his county bagged the Benson and Hedges trophy for the first time in 22 years. Mark Alleyne earned a berth in England's one day squad for the series against Australia in1999 - a position he was not able to retain for too long. At 33, Mark Alleyne hopes to continue lending services for Gloucestershire for some more years. Cricketscorelive.com gives information on Mark Alleyne and other Great Cricket Players.
