Full name Michael John Knight Smith Born June 30, 1933, Westcotes, Leicester Major teams England, Leicestershire, Oxford University, Warwickshire Batting style Right-hand bat
M.J.K. Smith was perhaps one of the most successful county players having scored nearly 40000 first class runs. He was the captain of Warwickshire and led from the front, being a confident and courageous cricketer himself. Famously known as "MKJ", he captained England in 25 out of his 50 Tests. He was a very talented batsman and scored most of the runs on the leg side. He however was criticized for the loss of his batting form in the mid 1960s as he failed to make big runs in a number of consecutive games in that period. After quitting the game, he became the chairman of Warwickshire County Cricket Club (1991-2003) and an ICC match referee (1991-1996).
