Full name Peter James Loader Born October 25, 1929, Wallington, Surrey Current age 76 Years Major teams England, Surrey, Western Australia Batting style Right-hand bat Bowling style Right-arm fast
Peter Loader was a part of the unbeatable Surrey side in the 1950s, and opened the bowling with Alec Bedser before Jim Laker and Tony Lock took up charge. A good height and long run distinguished his bowling and he specialized in late swing. His bouncers were dreaded and he knew how to introduce variations in pace. Perhaps his only imperfection was the irregular mumble over his faster ball.
Given the pool of talent that England produced during the time in the bowling department, Peter Loader got only 13 opportunities to represent the counrty. But he made his mark after taking England's first hat trick after the war against West Indies at Leeds on his way to 6 for 36, his only five-wicket haul in Tests. He went past 100 wickets in a season on seven occasions, toured Australia in 1954-55 and 1958-59, and twice took nine wickets in an innings. After retirement he moved to Australia and shifted his focus on an art business and also made a name in broadcasting.
