Tony Lock

Full name Graham Anthony Richard Lock
Born July 5, 1929, Limpsfield, Surrey
Died March 30, 1995, Perth, Western Australia, Australia
Major teams England, Leicestershire, Surrey, Western Australia
Batting style Right-hand bat
Bowling style Slow left-arm orthodox

Tony Lock made his debut for England in the third Test against India in 1952, after a successful run with Surrey. Lock is famously remembered as the bowler who claimed "the other wicket" when Jim Laker registered the record 19-90 at Old Trafford against Australia. Two years later, Lock had a wonderful summer against New Zealand, where he took 34 wickets at an average of 7.47. Though he played well at home, he was not very consistent while on tour, as a result of which he often lost his place in the side. Lock shifted to Leicestershire in 1965, and was made captain for the following two seasons, and under his leadership, Leicestershire finished as runners up in the 1967 County Championship. When recalled in the side the following year, he did not work up as much of a magic with the ball, but made a brilliant 89 against West Indies. After retirement, Tony Lock moved to Australia and also coached at places like Perth and London. He died of cancer at age 65.

Lock took 2,844 first-class wickets. He is the only player to score over 10,000 runs without scoring a hundred; even though he went past 50 on 27 occasions. His tally of 831 catches is also very commendable. Cricketscorelive.com provides the profile of Tony Lock and other cricketers around the world.
