Walter Hammond is placed on the elite list of four greatest cricketers of all time- W. G. Grace, Jack Hobbs, Walter Hammond and Don Bradman. His test batting average of 58.45 stands eighth on the all-time high list. Walter Hammond's batting remained immensely stylish throughout his career. One of the major reasons behind his tremendous success as a batsman was his ability to adapt his batting approach at different junctures of his career. He started as front-foot batsman and gradually developed his back-foot play, which served him well while facing the quicks.

Walter Hammond was frequently spoken of in comparison to Don Bradman, who was five years junior to him. Walter Hammond played in 85 test matches and accumulated 7249 runs. His first class record is equally fascinating with 50,551 runs in 634 matches at an average of 56.10. Walter Hammond, a lover of calm and solitude, spent his last years in South Africa and died there in 1965. Cricketscorelive.com gives information on Walter Hammond and other Great Cricket Players.
