Full name Eric William Thomas Tindill Born December 18, 1910, Nelson, Nelson Major teams New Zealand, Wellington Batting style Left-hand bat
The oldest surviving cricketer, Eric Tindill was a multi talented sportsman. He played cricket, rugby and table tennis and is only one of the seven players to have represented the country in both cricket and rugby. He played five Tests for New Zealand. His average of 9.12 does not do justice to his cricketing talents. However, his first class figures of 3127 runs at an average of 30.35, including six centuries does more to highlight his abilities. Eric Tindill was a stylish opening batsman cum wicketkeeper. He made his Test debut against England in 1937 and exactly 10 years later played his last Test at Christchurch against England again. After retiring from cricket, Eric Tindill continued his association with the game and became a match referee. He was also a national selector for a brief period.
