One of the finest wicket keepers of New Zealand, Ian Smith is best remembered for his innings of 173 runs of just 136 balls against India in a Test where New Zealand were struggling at 131 for 7 when he came to the crease. He also has the highest strike rate in cricket history, a strike rate of 99 in ODIs. He was an excellent wicketkeeper. Once in a Test against Sri Lanka in 1991 he held seven catches in an innings. After playing 63 Tests and 98 ODIs in a career that spanned from 1980 to 1992, Ian Smith retired and took up commentary. Today he is a popular cricket anchor.
