Lance Cairns

Full name Bernard Lance Cairns
Born October 10, 1949 Picton, Malborough
Major teams New Zealand, Southern Districts, Northern Districts, Durham, Minor Counties, Northern Districts, Otago
Batting style Right-hand bat
Bowling style Right-arm medium-fast

Lance Cairns was an all-rounder for New Zealand whose tales of swashbuckling batting have acquired an almost myth like stature. In 1983, Lance Cairns hit 6 sixes in a one-day international against Australia. In another instance, in a match between Otago and Wellington, Lance Cairns hit 109 runs in 51 balls, taking only an hour to reach the score. Lance Cairns appeared in 43 matches for New Zealand, he scored 928 runs and took 130 wickets. His only ten wickets haul in a match, which came in the test at Headingly in 1983, helped New Zealand register their first ever test match victory on the English soil. Lance Cairns enjoyed being different, be it batting or bowling. Even his bat, which he named 'Excalibur', was curiously shaped. Its shoulders were conically rather than rectangular. Lance Cairns is the father of yet another all-rounder for New Zealand- Christopher Cairns. Cricketscorelive.com gives information on Lance Cairns and other Great Cricket Players.
