Rashid Latif is probably one of the very few wicketkeepers selected in the team based on his batting abilities. He is a prolific scorer and has often got preference over fellow wicketkeeper Moin Khan to be in the playing eleven. He has had a very healthy competition with Moin Khan all through his career for a place in the side. If Khan was a better wicketkeeper, then Latif scored for his batting.
Rashid Latif's career was marked more by controversy than by anything else. He was involved in a huge clash with captain Salim Malik and that even resulted in him announcing a dramatic retirement in 1998. He however took it back and returned to the squad and even captained it for a while with moderate success. However the controversies returned to haunt him and soon he had too many differences with the bigwigs of Pakistani cricket. It led to his sacking from the side after the 2003-2004 Bangladesh series. He has not played international cricket since.
