With the spectacular run out of Inzamam-ul-Haque in the 1992 World Cup, Jonty Rhodes gave a whole new dimension to fielding and soon emerged as the world's best fielder. It was actually based on his brilliant fielding skills that he was included in the team, more than his batting abilities. This is however, not to take away his good batting record. He was quite a good hitter of the ball and scored over 8000 international runs in his 52 Tests and 245 ODIs.
Jonty Rhodes made his debut in the 1992 World Cup in a match against Australia and dismissed Craig McDermott in a brilliant run out. That was just the beginning of a very colorful career in which he came to be known as a cricketer who could almost fly like a superhero and prevent runs, pluck catches out of thin air and run any batsman out! Rhodes was a very lively cricketer and immensely popular with the fans. He was always posing for photographs and obliging autograph hunters. Jonty Rhodes was a multi talented sportsman and so good were his hockey skills that he was selected in the national hockey squad for the 1996 Olympics, an offer that he had to refuse.
