Kepler Wessels became South Africa's first captain in the modern era after the country made a return to international cricket in 1992. However, Wessels was no newcomer as he had already played 24 Tests for Australia. He was the first South African born player to play for Australia. He was a very integral part of the team with his immense talent, which he exhibited from the very beginning by making a century on debut against England. He made a valuable contribution to Australia throughout his tenure with the team. He averaged a good 43 in the 24 Tests he played. He played a total of 40 Tests scoring 2788 runs at 41. He was a brave cricketer who played shots all over the ground. He was also a handy bowler and chipped in with the ball occasionally. After retirement, Kepler Wessels took up coaching.
