Roy Dias holds the distinction of becoming the first Sri Lankan to reach the total of 1000 test runs. He was known for elegant batting and perfect batting technique.
Roy Dias was a part of the team that played in Sri Lanka's inaugural test match against England. Though he was dismissed for a duck in the first inning, he came back strongly to produce a wonderful 77. Thus heralding Sri Lanka's entry into test cricket in a handsome way. Together with Duleep Mendis, Roy Dias was the mainstay of Sri Lanka's batting in its early years in test cricket.
Roy Dias was particularly impressive in the Pakistan tour, where he scored his career best 109. Though Sri Lanka lost the series, Roy Dias emerged with his reputation as a key batsman reinforced.
