Full name Dandeniyage Somachandra De Silva
Born June 11, 1942, Galle
Major teams Sri Lanka, Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club, Shropshire
Batting style Right-hand bat
Bowling Style Legbreak googly

Somachandra de Silva was a talented leg spinner, who was a part of the Sri Lankan team that was awarded test status in 1982. Unfortunately for Somachandra de Silva, when the recognition arrived he already had the better part of his cricketing years behind him. Somachandra de Silva bowled with great deception. He could extract turn from the most lifeless pitches and the batsmen found difficulty in reading his googlies. In Sri Lanka's inaugural test Somachandra de Silva scalped three wickets, including that of David Gower. In the 1882-83 tour of New Zealand, Somachandra de Silva replaced the injured Duleep Mendis to captain the Sri Lankan side. Somachandra de Silva lead from the front and took three wickets and scored two half-centuries.

Somachandra de Silva retired from international cricket. Later he also became the coach of the Sri Lankan team. Cricketscorelive.com gives information on Somachandra de Silva and other Great Cricket Players.
