A part of the famous “W” trio, Clyde Walcott was one of the most skilled batsmen to have played for the West Indies. He is specially noted for being the first player to score five centuries in a series. The feat came in the series against Australia in 1955 where he finished the tournament having scored 827 runs in ten innings that also included centuries in both innings of a match twice. This was indeed a staggering record and very few people have been able to match it. Clyde Walcott also holds the record for the highest domestic partnership in the West Indies. He, along with Frank Worrell added 574 runs for the fourth wicket, playing for Barbados against Trinidad in 1945-’46. After retiring from cricket in 1960, Clyde Walcott was still associated with the game and in 1992 was appointed an ICC match referee. He also served as the Chairman of the ICC in 1993. He was knighted in 1994.
