With unlimited stamina and a never say die attitude, Courtney Walsh deservedly became the world’s leading wicket taker in 2000. Though a few bowlers have overtaken him now, he remains as one of the greatest bowling sensations of the world. Courtney Walsh made his debut for the West Indies in 1984. Initially he was overshadowed by the other bowling greats Malcolm Marshall and Curtly Ambrose, but he soon emerged a destructive bowler himself. He formed an indomitable partnership with Curtly Ambrose and the duo was known for their ability to run through any batting line up. Walsh had a long career with the West Indies which lasted for nearly two decades. He finished with taking 519 Test wickets at an average of 24.44. But what was most astonishing was his physical ability to endure stress. He bowled a total of 30,019 balls and that was excluding his domestic career. A big man with a big heart, Courtney Walsh was however not very successful with the bat. Rather, his batting was quite the opposite of his bowling. He fared miserably and has 43 ducks to his name.
