One the undisputed legends of West Indian cricket, George Headley was often called the Black Bradman. His test average of 60.83 is only next to Sir Donald Bradman and Graeme Pollock.

As a 21 year old, George Headley made his debut against England in the first test match on the West Indian soil. George Headley made a resounding 176 in the second innings to announce his arrival. The greatness of George Headley may be known from the fact that he never had a bad series between 1929 and 1939.

George Headley was mainly a back foot player and enjoyed playing his shots freely. His onside drives were a treat to those who witnessed them. Apart from being an incredible batsman, George Headley was also an excellent fielder and bowled his leg spin occasionally.

George Headley played in 22 test matches to score 2190 runs; and in 103 first class matches, he accumulated 9921 runs at an average of 69.86 runs.
