In May 2003, Jermaine Lawson burst into international cricket. Having made his debut against India in 2002, this tall and lanky pacer was capable of blazing speed and precision. In only his third match, he got six wickets while conceding just three runs against Bangladesh at Dhaka. His good run followed and he had a dream series against the Australians. After recuperating from health problems, Lawson got a hat trick in the closing stages of the third Test, before tearing apart Australia's first innings in Antigua with career-best figures of 7 for 78, and took West Indies to a historic win. Unfortunately his action was suspected by the umpires and referees and he was reported to the ICC. After undergoing remedial action, he was cleared. However his return was not smooth with figures of 2 for 126 against Bangladesh in June 2004. Bad luck continued and a spinal stress fracture kept him out of the Champions Trophy at the end of that season. Though he successfully returned following year, his action was again reported, though the ICC gave him a clean chit.
