“Whispering Death” as he was called by the umpires around the world for his silent approach to the wicket, Michael Holding to many was more of a dark messenger of death who brought before the batsmen the horrors of the Judgement day. Seeing him, most of them gave up on their greedy run gathering ways and with bats in tucked in their hands they traipsed their way to the pavilion.

Standing tall at over six foot, Michael Holding was a natural athelete. His effortless run-up, considered one of the smoothest amongst the fast bowler, was the chief reason behind his superb pace.

The over that Michael Holding bowled to Geoff Boycott at Bridgetown in 1981, has gone down as one of the finest overs in test cricket.

Michael Holding formed a part of the dreaded team of West Indian fast bowlers which included Joel Garner, Andy Roberts, Sylvester Clarke, Colin Croft.
Michael Holding’s haul of 249 wickets came from 60 tests that he played at an average of 23.68. He also played in 102 ODIs and bagged 142 wickets at an average of 21.36. These days Michael Holding’s lends his presence in the commentators circle, talking in rich baritone about what he knows best- cricket.
