Brought into the Zimbabwean side mainly for his bowling, Andy Blignaut took 5 for 73 in his first test against Bangladesh. Since then his reputation as a destructive batsman has eclipsed his bowling. Andy Blignaut's strike rate in one day is dangerously over 100, though his average is little less than 20.
Andy Blignaut has had his share of problems with the cricket administrators in Zimbabwe. The gravity of which led him to give up cricket for the entire 2001-02 season, during which course he experimented with other callings, including modeling.
In August 2002, Andy Blignaut called for a truce, and was subsequently selected to play tests against Pakistan. He celebrated his return with figures of 5 for 79. He continued with the newly found zeal and stood out in the 2003 World Cup and later in England.
Andy Blignaut's return was short-lived as he was one of the 15 rebel players who protested against the Zimbabwe board and were ultimately sacked. Andy Blignaut moved to Australia to play for Tasmania. His performance was a deeply disappointing one.
In 2005, Andy Blignaut expressed willingness to return to the international. Soon enough he was recalled to the test side.
