A spirited cricketer rather than an outstanding one, Stuart Carlisle made brave attempts to leap out of the mediocrity which seems an inextricable part of the Zimbabwean cricket. A wonderful fielder square of the wicket, Stuart Carlisle batted in all positions from 1 to 7. He was made the Zimbabwean captain briefly, but later stripped of it and dropped from the squad going to 2003 World Cup. Stuart Carlisle appeared in 37 test matches and scored 1615 runs at an average of 26.91 runs per inning. Stuart Carlisle was one of the rebel players embroiled in the standoff against the Zimbabwean cricket authorities. He announced his retirement in October 2005, citing frustration at the manner in which politics had made home with Zimbabwean cricket.
