In his short career Tatenda Taibu has seen a lot of ups and downs. From becoming the world's youngest captain at age 20 to receiving death threats, he has experienced it all. Tatenda Taibu made his first class debut at age 16 and international debut when he was just 18. In 2003 he was appointed the deputy of captain Heath Streak and after a host of top Zimbabwean players rebelled and resigned from the squad, Taibu was made captain in 2004. Contrary to speculations he stood up to the job and led from the front. Many cricketing stalwarts praised him for his maturity and his game which undoubtedly stood out in an otherwise weak line up.
In 2005 Taibu led a team of 74 cricketers who condemned the Zimbabwe management. This led to him being criticized from all nooks and corners and he also received death threats. All this led to him announcing his retirement from international cricket in November that year. He has however chosen to play domestic cricket abroad.
